Pregnancy, Back Pain, and Chiropractic
As a female chiropractor who has had two natural childbirths of her own, I get asked if I treat the aches and pains associated with pregnancy. The answer is a resounding yes! Chiropractic can provide a very safe and often highly effective option for relief from back pain, neck pain, and headaches that commonly occur as the spine and its surrounding musculature adapt to support a forwardly expanding uterus and lowered center of gravity. I have both training and extensive experience in treating women during this most exciting life stage. It never ceases to amaze and thrill me to see both the severity and frequency of my expecting patient’s symptoms decrease while under chiropractic care. Often chiropractic care during pregnancy will include gentle adjustments to restricted or locked areas of the spine, specific stretches and postural / core exercises. On a personal note, having experienced pregnancy-related low back pain during both of my pregnancies, I found regular chiropractic care like this invaluable.
On the topic of pregnancy and back pain, I co-authored this article for Main Line Parent Magazine entitled “Pregnancy Doesn’t Have to Be a Pain in the Back”.
